These provisions were taken from the 1998 version of C 1240. Note that this
specification is being changed on a frequent basis; therefore, be sure to
check the most current version.
The provisions in this specification are intended to ensure that silica fume
is a consistent material that is representative of the silica fume that has
been used on other projects in the past. These provisions do not
necessarily indicate how the material will perform in concrete. The only
way to determine how a particular silica fume will perform in concrete is to
test using the project materials and the project mixture proportions.
Silica fume not meeting the requirements of C 1240 may also perform well in
concrete. Again, test using project materials and project mixture
proportions.
